October 19th marks International Credit Union Day for 2017! Each year, this international event allows us to remember the proud history of Credit Unions around the world and promote awareness of and support for the customer owned banking sector. This year’s theme “Dreams Thrive Here,” celebrates how credit unions and other customer-owned banking cooperatives serve as catalysts to make a real difference in the lives of their members.

What makes LCU unique?

  • We are member owned – Our members are shareholders of the Credit Union which means they own a part of the credit union and have a say in the decisions made.
  • People before profits! – Unlike other financial institutions (such as banks) our profits go back to our members through competitive interest rates, fairer fees and by focusing on community investments in our local area.
  • Financial Education for Members– At LCU, we place particular importance on educational opportunities for our members and the local community. We help them become better-educated consumers of financial services.
  • Trust– Our members trust us, they’ve given us nothing but positive feedback on our personal service and honesty. Our members can be assured that their funds are supported by the Government Guarantee and that LCU is regulated by APRA and ASIC just like all Australian financial institutions.

We want to say a big thank you to all our members for being so loyal and supportive of LCU. To keep our credit union strong for the future we encourage you to share the love and refer your family and friends to LCU as well. After all, it’s our members that make up LCU! We want to continue the good work going forward and be strong enough to help future generations with their banking needs as well.
