Visa Debit Chip Card
Chip cards are becoming standard globally in an effort to reduce card fraud. The security chip makes it more difficult to fraudulently copy the card details.
From 1st September 2009 any new or renewal Visa debit cards issued by LCU will be the new EMV chip cards. We recommend that if you are planning to travel overseas, you contact LCU to arrange a chip card.
USING THE CARD
In ATM's
Chip cards will work at ATM's as normal.
At EFTPOS terminals
Merchants using terminals with chip technology will have a slightly different process. Your card will remain in the terminal throughout the transaction, you will choose either to PIN or sign and then your card will be returned to you at the end of the transaction.
Some merchants will process the transaction in the same way as your previous card, by swiping the card through the terminal.
Don't forget - only select "Savings" if you are getting cash out.
Select "Credit" for all other transactions.
Overseas
Chip cards are the dominant card used throughout Europe and increasingly in Asia. We recommend that you know your PIN as some countries will require transactions to be completed with a PIN instead of a signature.
